Walmart has got something pretty cool going on. They're working with some new bands who are trying to become known, so there is a section in the CDs called 'Soundcheck - Risers' where these bands are featured. Out of curiosity, I picked up a few of them, and am happy to say that they're pretty cool bands!

The first band I listened to was Thriving Ivory. At first I didn't know what I thought about them - they were a little different than I was used to. I soon learned they were inspired ...

You guys into any local bands? I love supporting local bands - they make some great music and buying their CDs helps them excel in their music career...plus you get to listen to their music whenever you want!

This is copied from some blog entries I posted on my Myspace, but here's some information on a bunch of local bands I got to hear at a local music festival down here called Bayfest. These were the bands I listened to last year in October:

It's crazy when you haven't listened to a band for a while, and then you listen to them and am like, "why the hell isn't this on my MP3 player?" In my case, it's Enigma.

I've got their album, Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!, playing in my CD player now, and I'm gonna have to rip it and The Cross of Changes onto my MP3 player. I admit, I've been listening to way too much post-grunge rock and power metal lately that ...

Post-grunge bands!

Here's another genre I really like! Post-grunge bands evolved from Grunge bands, who were the kinds of people who practiced their music in their garages. They are described as "Their music may often incorporate the distorted guitar, angst-filled lyrics and 'loud-quiet' dynamics of grunge, but employ more commercial or 'radio-friendly' production and mastering. Post-grunge also tends to be driven more by musical lyrics than by tune."

Actually, there are quite a lot of Post-grunge ...

Viking Metal/Power Metal bands?

I'm looking for more bands that are considered Viking Metal. These bands are generally Scandinavian and have music relating to Norwegian folklore.

While I am currently not listening to any at the moment, two bands that I like that sound kind of like this would be Sonata Arctica, and Dragonforce. They are considered 'Power Metal', instead, but I think the concepts are about the same.

So anyway, if any of you guys listen to these kinds of bands, please let me know who to listen to! ...
